Jewellery Trends at London Fashion Week AW13

As the parties subside and the glitz moves away from Somerset House to leave little but sore feet, it’s time for us to feast on the banquet of new fashion trends presented at London Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2013 show.

London Fashion Week‘s exhibition always stars a duo of our favourite luxury jewellery brands right as one enters – Mawi and Erickson Beamon.

Mawi’s distinctive avante-garde designs continue to innovate the marriage of feminine and masculine forms with tough bike chains and spikes contrasting against vivid Swarovski details and bird-of-paradise colour schemes. Coupled with their signature high quality finishing and you may need to wipe the drool from your chin after inspecting the range.

Erikson Beamon’s style has the raunchiness of statement labels like Adele-Marie London. It’s all handmade in the capital and continues to be a darling of celebrities.

With an entree as rich and delectable as this, it was serving up to be a full flavoured event. We found our mains soon after, in the form of the ever effervescent Les Nereides and newly launched Lola Rosa Boutique.

Lola Rose came to fame for it’s use of sculpted natural stone. Think chunky bracelets of polished semi-precious stones and rings with gemstone centre-pieces. The new Lola Rose Boutique moves into new territory by introducing metal to the range. That might not sound like a giant step for mankind but it’s certainly a new world for the designer label to explore. The new collection has strong, sexy evocations with geometric shapes cut for a new Cleopatra.

“To give you an idea,” spoke Roger, Lola Roses’ sales director, “we’ve launched Boutique 18 months ago and it already has grown to account for 50% of sales!”

I couldn’t agree more with the public. I’ve always loved Lola Roses’ charm but I’ve never felt like I could give up shopping at Waitrose for it – until now! Whatever cutbacks it takes, I want it!

Another designer that highly impressed me and my colleagues was Maria Francesca Pepe’s range. Cited on a small and demure stand to the edge of Swarovski’s ever gleaming installation for the show, this was a collection of the Michelin persuasion. A few key ingredients were finely presented to create a dish that excited the mind and satisfied one’s appetite.

I’ll put one of Maria Francesca Pepe’s video trailers for the collection in a moment but to set the scene, know that we’re talking about accessibly priced fashion pieces, many in delicate portions, made from gold or silver plated bronze and finished to a high standard. If you’re an 18-30 fashionista looking to take home your own piece of catwalk fresh London Fashion Week, this is the collection to watch. It’s cool enough that everyone will know it’s from the pinnacle of fashion whilst still being wearable enough that you don’t need an invite to the. Elle Style Awards to have an excuse to wear it. See what I mean:

This year fashion lovers can wake up each morning with a sense of anticipation. London Fashion Week has only just finished showcasing the fine clothes and jewellery that are coming for Autumn and Winter 2013. This is going to be a vintage year and the quality of the jewellery collections coming your way leave me in no doubt in making this recommendation – buy some and treasure it; you won’t regret it!

Rodney Holman’s New Spring/Summer 2012 Collection is Here

We here at Make Me Beautiful are big fans of Rodney Holman’s jewellery, and since we are the best at clip-on earrings, there is no way we can avoid bragging about the launch of Rodney Holman’s new Spring/Summer 2012 collection with us!

Rodney Holman, London’s leading designer of fine fashion jewellery for the last thirty years, believes that his “ever-changing fashionable range is one of the most comprehensive selections of high quality jewellery available in the UK. We source our ranges from world leading manufacturers and resist selling cheap or inferior jewellery where quality, finish or durability is compromised.” And the new S/S12 range proves nothing less!

The collection celebrates the warmer months with pastel colours; greens, pinks, blues and purples, Rodney Holman has delved into the spring/summer mood with a throttle. It is safe to say that the bright shades complement the sensual design just as much as the vice versa. Floral motifs and delicate gold plated flowers, from large to petite, all waiting to be paraded in the hot sunshine.

Apart from the floral inspiration, this season Rodney Holman has bet on the vintage charisma. Seductive and mysterious pieces, ideal for adding a touch of thoughtful sparkle and 50′s glamour to an outfit. Exquisite pearls placed within a gorgeous diamante encrusted rhodium frame, or semi hoop earrings with stunning silver swirl design – Rodney Holman’s new collection adds elegance to every look.

Cabinet Studios at London Fashion Week

Cabinet Studios were merely an infant only two years ago, and since then their designer jewellery has grown into an aspirational and desired brand. Their debut collection, Amnesia (SS2010) received an outstanding reception by the fashion elite, the Cabinet Studios SS12 jewellery collection wowwed us and today they are ready to show us what they can do. The Make Me Beautiful team met Cabinet Studios during the exhibition in the Somerset House at London Fashion Week, and definitely left impressed.

Cabinet Studios have an ethos, which focuses on creating one of a kind, extremely exclusive jewellery and womenswear accessories, made through a combination of rare and unusual objects, entirely handcrafted. Individuality and self-expression are big mottoes for the brand. Cabinet Studios design jewellery, which completes the wearer’s signature look of free spirited, but considered edge, true luxury, everyday glamour and special occasion accessories.

The new Cabinet Studios collection for AW2012 is called The Siberian High and encompasses the dark, mysterious glamour of winter. Polar shadow, pearl rose, translucent cord, sapphire glacial blue… all inspirations for the immaculate collection laid out for us to adore during the exhibition. Oversized pearls were combined with brushed rose gold and deep navy jewels were inspired by classic simplicity and love for roughly cut facets and uneven surfaces. Check out their Siberian High look book below!

When we’ve become able to control ourselves long enough to speak to Gemma and Zara and without drooling on the jewels we’ll be asking them all about clip on earrings and whether they’d consider us and the rest of the non-pierced women out there in the future. Until then, back to drooling!

Les Néréides at London Fashion Week

We cannot hide it – clip on earrings specialists Make Me Beautiful are one of Les Néréides biggest fans; and their delicate collections, which are nothing less than exquisite! Each one is based on a specific theme, from fairy tales to insects from nature, Les Néréides always offer an exciting and innovative range of luxury costume jewellery with a good level of though given to those of us who only want to wear clip on earrings. The London Fashion Week exhibition at the Somerset House is a collection in itself, a place where numerous impressive jewellery designers come together to showcase their new creations.  As always, Les Néréides was  one of the most inspiring stands in the entire exhibition, and we are lucky to have a few snap shots of the gorgeous jewellery that was on display.

Les Néréides at London Fashion Week

Les Néréides new Spring/Summer 2012 collection is very much floral inspired. Boutons de Rose is a line from Les Néréides garden, a slowly awakening collection full of sophistication and elegance. Another one of our favourites is the fairy tale based collection, this time epitomising Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs onto earrings, necklaces and broaches. Adam and Eve themed costume jewellery stands next to quirky French Fries Man earrings, which are next to all sorts of insects, animals and birds! Les Néréides is constantly innovating itself, and that’s what makes it a brand that will always have a memorable and long-lasting effect on its customers.

Mawi Couture Jewellery at London Fashion Week

Mawi celebrates its 10 years in the fine jewellery world, and the statement piece brand is anything but lacking novelty! The label has reinvented old designs and meshed together various of their past collections to come up with this season’s Revival collection, encompassing a little bit of everything they’ve always been about; i.e. jewellery with emphasis on luxurious statement pieces, combining cutting edge contemporary style with traditional influences and inspiration from classic glamour. The Mawi brand has a life of its own, and continues to depict the designer’s signature look and charisma.

The Mawi stand at the London Fashion Week exhibition in the Somerset house was immaculate. Three collections, one of the the Revival one, which brought together all the elegance of their past designs into new ones. The other collections were traditional Mawi, but with an exciting new edge to each piece. The Fine Costume collection draws inspiration from sculpture, architecture and futuristic forms, with the inevitable emphasis on high end luxury, with designs complementing the fashion trends each season. The Heirloom collection on the other hand is distinctly British, inspired by vintage and estate jewels, family heirlooms and royal influences. The pieces are treasures cherished and passed on to future generations, standing the test of time.

Here are some shots from the Mawi AW2012 stand in the Somerset House during London Fashion Week.

The Mawi collection left us full of desire! The only sad thing was that although it’s mix-n-match jewellery format gave a lot of choices, there’s only one clip on earring in the current collection. Yes, we had a word in their ear so watch this space and do let us know if Mawi is something that you’d love to see us stocking. Mawi have invited us over to their HQ on several occassions and if there is enough interest, we’ll head down there and set up a talk on getting collection that works for our non-pierced earring wearers.

Erickson Beamon at London Fashion Week

Erickson Beamon’s designers Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon create some magnificent pieces of jewellery, including clip on earrings, that have been recognised not just by us at London Fashion Week, but by a large list of celebrities. Over 111 million viewers tuned in to watch this year’s Super Bowl half time show (watch here), when Nicki Minaj and M.I.A’s elaborate headpieces by Erickson Beamon took on centre stage. A proud moment for the designer duo, but not their first!

Body jewellery is becoming a big thing among celebrities, and Erickson Beamon is one of the best. Singers Alicia Keys and Beyoncé have both been spotted wearing the same harness; Alicia Keys during her performance at the 2011 B.E.T awards, and Beyoncé wore the gold harness and head gear in her shoot for her new album ‘4’. Other celebrities include Daphne Guinness and of course, Lady Gaga.

At the London Fashion Week exhibition, Erickson Beamon did nothing else but impress! The house now boasts a fine jewelry collection, offering the brands signature style in diamonds and 18 karat gold. In our eyes, Erickson Beamon’s stand was one of the most impressive showcases seen at the London Fashion Week exhibition ever! Walking around shelves laden with crystals, semi-precious stones, pearls, chains, clip ons, mirrors, marks and body jewellery was an experience we recommend to everyone. The designer duo formed by Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon have shaped a collection encompassing a mixture of immaculate creations, adorned not just by us, but by a looooooooooooooooooooooooong list of celebrities! Mawi celebrates their 10th year anniversary this year, and we are joining the excitement of the festivities! The Make Me Beautiful team spent a long time at their immaculate stand at the London Fashion Week exhibition this weekend, and didn’t leave unimpressed. Mawi always focuses on three collections, and this season, to mark their ten years in the fine jewellery world, Mawi has released a Retrospect collection, inspired by almost a dozen years of designs, their best ones melded together into new, fabulous pieces that undoubtedly portray the Mawi look. The other two collections draw inspirations from architecture, sculpture, futuristic forms and designs, new materials and techniques. Lola Rose is one of the most successful jewellery brands in the UK today, and we couldn’t just casually pass by their ornamented stand during the London Fashion Week exhibition. The brand specialises in bold, affordable luxury, colourful, hand-made jewellery, from the finest semi-precious stones. Designer Nicola Gewirtz makes her costumers feel amazing by bringing colour, glamour and excitement with every purchase they make! This season we see a lot of oversized semi-precious stones in bracelets, earring and necklaces, while blacks, greys and pastel colours dominate the collection.

Scoop International Fashion Show

Last Sunday was a long day and right after Pure and before the BAFTAs, our team found time to go to Scoop International Fashion Show, held in the Saatchi gallery on Kings Road, London. Of course in terms of the jewellery, comparing Scoop with the atmosphere at Pure, Scoop was of high fashion, a collective of more immaculate pieces, more exclusive designers and a lot more diversity in designs.

Scoop International Fashion Show at the Saatchi Gallery

Scoop International Fashion Show at the Saatchi Gallery

The number one designer of luxury clip on earrings that we fell in love with at Scoop is , a French brand, which has an exclusive boutique in Covent Garden. Their designs are inspiring and each collection tells a story. Whether it’s the Dans la Forêt collection with pendants of rabits, earrings with squirrels or bats, or their Voluptueuse et Vaporeuse, which epitomises everything that is dreamy, with exotic flower motifs and pastel shades, inspired by Asian women in 1920’s;   is an exciting brand that constantly evolves. Every piece plays a part in a bigger story, but can also stand its ground on its own. We here at Make Me Beautiful feel absolutely inspirited by the uniqueness, ingenuity and love for jewellery design that  displays as a brand, and as a life style.

Although the pictures we show here are pierced earrings, Les Néréides do have an exquisite range of clip on earrings which are co-ordinated with matching necklaces and bracelets.

Another spectacular example of a brand that works to perfection and loves the exactness of precision is Miquella. The brand works with chains creating a mixture of sizes, shades and weights into a single piece. With a strong emphasis on hand crafts, knotting, bead work, Miquella uses materials ranging from fine silk to  leather, from swarovski crystal to onyx and semi precious stones. Miquella designs follow one’s curves almost in a careless manner, portraying a mixture of easy-to-wear, but statement pieces.

Scoop International Fashion Show is an exhilarating collection of exclusive brands and exquisite designs. Expensive, and worth it for the quality and uniqueness one gets. One-off pieces from designers from all over the world, which would not be available to purchase in the average store. Fashion, accessories and art, all in the setting of an established gallery with prominent collections and aspiring visitor.

As always, our Make Me Beautiful fashion scouts are out there pounding the streets and stalking the shows so that you don’t have to! We take in the collections and inspirations of many of Europe’s top designers to bring you an edit of the best ready-to-wear clip on earring collections. Look out for our new ranges available in store now.

The Jewellery at Pure London 2012

Last Sunday was very eventful and while the evening was brewing for the Grammy and BAFTA awards, the day begun much earlier, when our team went to Pure London, UK’s favourite fashion buying destination! Kensington Olympia is a big place and during the past weekend it played host to hundreds of womenswear, footwear, accessories and young fashion brands!

Of course we from Make Me Beautiful were there to discover new clip on earring designers and lure more new brands to our store, to make them available for you to buy! The amount of jewellery we saw was overwhelming; from wood to pearls, from crystals to diamonds, from gold to silver. Most stands were covered in this season’s focus metal: rose gold. Get ready for it, because it is sweeping the world of jewellery this year, and it looks gorgeous!

We met a lot of brands that impressed us with their novelty, beauty and love for clip on earring design. One of the first stands that grabbed our attention was the unmissable Girls&Pearls. With the vibrant shades of their signature collection, they cover the whole colour palette and present us with exciting pieces with a personality and charm.

Further up the isle barricaded by jewellery designer stands, we met Hultquist from Copenhagen. Their brushed metals and aged golds and silvers portrayed a mood of age, but respect. Their designs are timeless, but very aware of every trend.

Hulquist stand at Pure London 2012.

What’s most exciting about Pure is discovering a great designer jewellery company that we’ve never heard of before! After some time, we wonder how and why we’ve spent years not working with them! This year our favourite new find is The Branch, a company which specialises in designer jewellery combining wood, semi precious stones and precious metals. Their designs are flawless and the amount of craftsmanship required to embed a precious stone into a wooden base is immense. They regularly feature in the fashion media and are found in exclusive boutiques; maybe Make Me Beautiful will be one of them soon!

The Branch stand at Pure London 2012.

The Branch stand at Pure London 2012.

We have never hidden the fact that we are big fans of Adele Marie, the bold clip on earring designs by Adele Vanderkar, combined with the Zandra Rhodes for Adele Marie collaboration collection make Adele Marie a diverse brand offering customers vibrant and intricate costume jewellery. The real teaser is the long awaited second collection by Zandra Rhodes coming soon…

Lola Rose is another brand that we met and are very fond of. They specialize in bold, colourful jewellery hand-made from fine semi-precious stones. The designer Nicola Gewirtz has a philosophy of affordable luxury that is quite simple, and customers feel the glamour and opulence in every piece by Lola Rose.

Many more of our favourite jewellery brands were at Pure this year, including Tatty Divine, a well established brand famous for their unique and original designs. Another is Sam Ubhi, award winning designer famous for eye-catching accessories that put jewellery on a modern art platform. Vintage pieces, tribal decoration, eco-friendly and fair trade materials create a modern and individual twists that shine through every design created.

And so after a long day of walking, meeting designers, holding a huge number of precious clip on earring jewellery pieces in our hands, a couple of fashion shows and a trend predictions talk by WGSN, we from Make Me Beautiful had to leave Pure. Feeling inspired and excited about the next season in the jewellery design world, we moved onto Scoop
